ATMac in 2014

What a year!

In 2014, ATMac started up again after several year’s break. Here’s what happened …

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Ricky Buchanan and ATMac is my baby. I started it and I write almost all of the posts. I have a bunch of rare diseases myself and I’m mostly bedridden, so I have a great setup which mounts the screen of my Mac over my bed so I can lie back all comfy and restful and type to you all – my initial interest in assistive technology was in trying to set up my own environment so that I didn’t curl up and expire from sheer boredom, and it grew from there.

This is me, Ricky!

The first post for the restarted ATMac was on the 13th of January 2014 so it’s pretty much been going all year. In that time:

There were 117 articles posted
– I authored 110 articles
– 27 of my articles were link roundups
– There were 7 guest posts

We had 196 comments posted too, thank you everybody! And lots of encouraging tweets and Facebook messages. It’s awesome to get feedback, so thank you for that.

During 2014, ATMac had about 145,000 visitors. That’s pretty amazing … and on the busiest day, there were 6931 visitors.

Here’s a pretty graph of our traffic every day this year. Apparently jagged peaks like this are pretty normal!

More than 40% of ATMac visitors are using a mobile device, almost half were iPhones and about a third were iPads. That surprises me – I find mobile devices pretty difficult to use so knowing that almost half of you are on mobile devices seems really odd. It’s good to know though, so I can make sure that everything works just fine on iPads and iPhones as well as desktop devices.

I have lots of plans for 2015 but I need a break to recharge so there will be a few weeks of quiet before things start up again. Happy holidays to all and wishing you all a happy new year in advance!

  1. Hi Ricky, I love reading your articles. I didn’t realize you keep track on what devices people read your articles with… Impressive! I usually read your articles with an android phone or windows computer. I read your articles for my dyslexic child. I have found your information to be great fit apple and windows. Thank you for all you do!

    • Julie: The google analytics automatically track all kinds of things like that! I’m glad the articles are helpful for you, and thanks for commenting – it’s really great to get feedback 🙂
