Brilliant! I’ll have to check that out.

Would the clamps hold it steady if you knocked it with arm accidentally so wouldn’t drop off? (I have opposite problem of too many movements when I don’t want them!)

I see these great ideas and often they are only available in US and would cost a fortune to import as I’m guessing metal clamps would be heavy!

I wonder if the hand e holder on its own would go around something like the bar on the front of permobil stander to use that as the mount? what model is your chair?

I would certainly take this into consideration when choosing my next chair with recline and everything on. I guess a chair with metal tubular frame would be easier to find somewhere to put the clamps on than one with the kind of plastic shrouds?

@Kati: Yes, the clamps are pretty sturdy so it would be pretty difficult to knock an iPad off of one.

I use an Invacare TDX 5 power wheelchair and the armrest is pretty thick where I have the HandeHolder wrapped around so it’s quite possible you could do the same on the bar of your Permobile.

Like you, I now have much to consider, that I never had to think about before, when I get my next power wheelchair. The HandeHolder and its associated clamps is quite flexible though so it would not surprise me if it could work for you. I would recommend e-mailing them (using the link in my article) and they might be able to help you out even though you’re in another country. Keep me posted! :-)

I have a protective cover on my Ipad to keep it from getting damaged if thrown or dropped. Will it work with something like that?

Oooh, this is intriguing! I have my iPhone mounted using a combo of RAM mounting components and one-off stuff made by the welder at my wheelchair shop (including a lever thing that I pull one end of and it pushes the Home button, which is too stiff for me).

But I do have an iPad (ok, 2) and Kindle (with a Kindle Touch ordered) that I’d like to be able to put pretty much square in front of me, with an easily adjustable position (not so easy as to be disrupted by tilting though) and swappable devices. I found the following clamp/gooseneck holder which might suit your needs, too, but have been struggling with the the swappable-devices part… and it looks like this could do the trick! If I attached the main part to a plate screwed to the gooseneck, I could just have additional rings, one for each device – right?

Also: how do you keep your iPod powered thru your battery/ This is a dream of mine! (Well, that, and a Permobile app that will show me my Omni menu – lights, speed, etc – so I can put the Omni itself on the back of my chair, out of the way.)

    Here’s that mount: http://bit.ly/njYh3E
