Horizontal Scrolling for Older Mice

Apple Mighty MouseMacWorld online magazine posted a great hint about horizontal scrolling for older mice and pointing devices which offer vertical scrolling but not horizontal scrolling - hold down the shift key while you use the vertical scroll function to scroll horizontally instead.

In my experiments with my trackpad, which offers vertical but not horizontal scrolling, shift+scroll up scrolled to the left, shift+scroll down scrolled to the right, and it worked in almost every application I tried.
