For anybody typing characters that don’t appear on the keyboard, PopChar X is far easier to use than the Character Palette. The new magnifier makes the program much more accessible for those with low vision.
Ergonis software has announced the release of PopChar X v3.3, an updated version of their software for inserting special characters into text. A free update for registered users who have purchased the software in the last two years, PopChar X v3.3 costs €29.99 ($43.13).
PopChar X enables you to easily type hard-to-remember characters. It places a distinctive icon in the menu bar that displays a table of characters – symbols, foreign letters, and more – that you can select to insert as text in whatever application you’re using. It saves you from having to memorize complex modifier key combinations.
New to PopChar X v3.3 is support for Mac OS X v10.5 ‘Leopard’. Ergonis Software has also added a new magnifier tool that provides an enlarged view of characters to show more subtle detail in each character, such as its position relative to the baseline. The new release also offers automatic font selection for all components of Apple’s iWork 08 suite – Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
