I posted a few days ago about VoiceOver in languages other than English for Leopard. When I realised I couldn’t find a document anywhere explaining what languages VoiceOver was localised in, I emailed Apple with the question. Here’s the response I received last night:
VoiceOver is localized in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, and Chinese. Mac OS X ships only with English voices, but other language voices can be purchased separately.
Thanks to Apple for the quick response time on the query.

Where do you get the other languages?

You have to purchase the other languages from third-party companies. Cepstral sells some languages, AssistiveWare sells some (under the Infovox iVox label), no doubt other companies sell others. Let me know if you can’t find the right web addresses for these.

Hello
Besides voice in languages other than English, I also use braille.
But I did not find out how to configure VoiceOver so that it uses a
German Braille table. In VoiceOver utility, there is only the
braille table for US English available. Does that mean, that I have
to get a german braille table from somewhere else?
Any help is very much appreciated.
Regards
Werner

Werner, I honestly don’t have a clue about the braille tables. I suggest you email accessibility@apple.com and ask them – if you find out, let me know and I’ll post it here so we can share the knowledge!

The best current information on text-to-speech voices in languages other than English can be found at the Multilingual Mac blog, I think.
