Round-Up: Discount Software, Accessible PDFs, Best App Ever

wheelchair-mac-boot-imageLooking for some new iPhone, iPod Touch or Mac software? On the 20th of January only take a look at Indie+Relief. A huge group of software developers have got together to sell software at discounted prices with all the proceeds going to charities to benefit Haiti in the wake of their massive earthquake. There’s some really useful software available there, and I highly recommend you take a look at it.

Accessible Podcast/iTunes U Guidelines

I wrote last year about the guidelines for creating accessible podcast and iTunes University content, put together by The National Center for Accessible Media at WGBH. Unfortunately, at the time I first wrote about them the guidelines themselves were not fully accessible. I’m pleased to say that the authors were happy to be alerted to the problem and worked with me to find the cause and to rectify it.

The fully accessible version of the guidelines has been available since the 16th of December. My apologies to Geoff from NCAM for taking so long to write about it.

Proloquo2Go For Best App Ever

Another thing happening just now is the iPhone/iPod Touch Best App Ever contest. Excitingly, Proloquo2Go has been nominated in the Best Education App category. You don’t need to login or anything complicated before voting: just visit the category and select the app you like best then click on the big orange “VOTE” button. To save time, you can jump directly to Vote For Proloquo2Go then click the big orange “VOTE” button. I can’t help thinking that an application that gives people the ability to communicate – often for the first time ever – has really got to be one of the best apps ever!

AT Blog Carnival Time

And last but not least, the Assistive Technology Blog Carnival is on again, thanks to Patrick Black. You have until the 29th of January to submit a blog post to be included in the carnival, it can be anything relevant to assistive technology from users, teachers, professionals, programmers, parents, or other supporters of AT users. I’d like to see a ton of submissions to the carnival, especially from Apple users, so let’s get writing!

That’s all for this round-up, stay tuned for more ATMac coming soon!

If you are going to buy Proloquo2Go, please consider using the links in this article. If you do, I'll get a commission - a small percentage of the sale price. It won't cost you anything and it will help to support me and ATMac.
