Jane Farrall has constructed a great table listing all the important features about all the known assistive/adaptive communication (AAC) applications for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. She’s actively updating the table in response to feedback, this is a great resource for those looking for information about AAC out there.

Voice4Me Basic AAC Program

Voice4Me is one of the free programs available at the SchoolFreeware website. It’s a very basic AAC program for users who have trouble speaking – users can click on a picture to speak the associated text, or type text into a box and then click on the ‘speak’ button.

Proloquo2Go – AAC for iPhone and iPod Touch

AssistiveWare and Sennott Consulting have announced that they are working on a groundbreaking Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC) program for Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch called Proloquo2Go. It’s expected to ship by the end of March, 2009.

Create simple communication boards using digital images with the free PHOTOsyms application. Your image grid can contain between 2 and 54 photos so within the grid limitations there’s quite a lot of room for customisation.

Some people burst with talent and will manage to create amazing stuff irrespective of the physical setbacks one suffers if affected by ALS. Tucker is certainly one of those people. Being confined to a wheelchair and having to control his computer with his head this sound designer, video editor and multimedia magician is as creative as ever.
