Now that MacSpeech Dictate International has been released, dictating in French, German, and Italian is simple. With a little ingenuity, you can even dictate in Spanish or Dutch.

MacSpeech Dictate is a great program but learning so many commands at once can be intimidating. I’ve put together two documents to help you learn and remember all the global commands found in Dictate version 1.2.1.

One feature missing from the still-new MacSpeech Dictate program is the ability to control the mouse. This addition won’t let you control the movement of the mouse, but we can teach you how to use your voice for mouse clicks. For those who have the ability to move the mouse, this could make the difference between a usable computer system and an unusable computer system.

The MacSpeech Dictate people have been busy updating their website recently. As well as significant updates to the knowledgebase, and new forums for users, they are now also offering free instructional videos.

Woopid is a website offering free short video tutorials on computer and gadget-related topics. Most of the tutorials focus on Mac computer topics, and there are many which are directly focussed on access related topics.

MacSpeech Dictate has finally been upgraded to version 1.2. The list of improvements and fixes is extensive, and essential function such as correction (they call it “phrase training”) and a spelling mode have been introduced.

Speech dictation has been around for the Macintosh for years. There has been IBM’s ViaVoice and MacSpeech’s iListen. I never tried ViaVoice but I did purchase iListen when it initially came out back in 2000. In short, I hated it. The accuracy was so awful that it was such a chore to use it. I [...]

MacSpeech today announced that their iListen speech recognition product will be replaced by the new MacSpeech Dictate. MacSpeech Dictate will be based on the same recognition engine as Dragon Naturally Speaking. Dragon NS is widely acknowledged as the best continuous speech recognition program for Windows that’s available.
