Switching to the Dvorak keyboard layout doesn’t cost anything and can help you type more easily once you learn to use the layout. Here’s how to go about it using Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Are you like many people in this keyboarding age whose arms, wrists, or hands hurt from typing or mousing too much? BBAutoComplete adds word auto-completion to scriptable applications. You type the start of a word, press a key, and BBAutoComplete types the letters to complete the word. If BBAutoComplete guessed wrong, you can keep pressing the key to cycle through other possible completions.

Text expansion tools are exactly suited to automatically add the accents, graves, and acutes to words as you type. TextExpander offers a free expansion pack to add a list of accented English words automatically, but you could add them to any text expansion tool yourself.

TextExpander is a great program for those who use a keyboard but want to save typing effort or keystrokes. It takes a bit of setting up to get it to work with you, but once you’re up and running it can be very useful.
